What Goes Through Men's Minds

When we managed to corner the cast of comedy flick, Grand Masti, we suspected the boys would just have a good laugh while answering our questions (which they did!). But  surprisingly, Vivek, Riteish and Aftab gave us some candid insight into what men really think, while throwing in a few politically correct statements, of course.

THE PANEL:

Vivek Oberoi

Riteish Deshmukh

Aftab Shivdasani

C: Do you think it's ever okay to hide the truth from your partner?

VIVEK: "Never. If you think your partner is cool and if you're friends, then there's really nothing to hide."
RITEISH: "If you want your relationship to last, then you better abstain from hiding the truth. It's the foundation of my own relationship."

C: What about little white lies like, 'Of course you don't look fat in that!'?
VIVEK: "Oh! That comes under tact, not honesty. My father's advice for a happily married life was this: a) the wife is always right; b) she can never look fat; c) if you don't know what to say, just make a non-committal sound like uh huh!"

C: What do men lie about most?
VIVEK: "I think if you're married, men lie the most about food. About how great it is, even if it really isn't."
RITEISH: "I think men lie about spending time with their guy friends! They'll always have an excuse like, 'We got late because of traffic, or they didn't get our order on time, or say that it was a really boring party'."
AFTAB: "Haha! That's true! 'Yes, I missed you so much at the party!'."

C: Do you think men's behaviour changes when they're lying?
VIVEK: "Definitely. I'm a sucky liar. I can't lie to my wife because I can't look her in the eye and fib, so I just don't bother doing it at all."
RITEISH: "I think for guys, when a girl gets upset, they suddenly see four options and they think, 'Which one should I go with to suit this occasion?' It doesn't always work though."

C: Have you ever discovered a secret she was hiding?
VIVEK: "I think right at the beginning of our marriage I told her, 'Honey, I love blatant honesty, it's such a kick to have someone so honest'. I really regret saying that now! Women can be quite critical..."
RITESH: "Men try to be smart about what they want to say. Anything to get a soft landing and not hurt the other person. Women have no problem with that aspect. They'll just lay it all out there, so basically no, I've never discovered anything she might have been hiding."

C: Why are men so bad at talking about their feelings?
AFTAB: "I think women are more judgmental and men fear that judgment so we tend to withhold our feelings and internalise them."
RITESH: "I don't like to discuss issues. I like to deal with them myself. It's not about big issues or small issues, I just like to get over it and move ahead as quickly as possible."

C: So do you talk to your friends about your issues?
VIVEK: "Yeah we do. We don't have three hour chats about one issue. It's a three-minute conversation and we discuss what needs to be done. So in a way we're more doers than talkers!"

Did you Know?

Salman was Hrithik's trainer

Before the release of his debut film, Hrithik Roshan used weight training to bulk up for his role.

Did you know that he was trained under the supervision of actor Salman Khan?

The film went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters of all times.

Warning! These Chemicals are Bad for Your Skin!

1. Parabens
Used in make-up, moisturisers and shampoos this add-on can mess with hormone function and is also associated with breast cancer. Look for names that end with pararaben such as methylparaben, butylparaben, propylparaben and isobutylparaben.

2. synthetic scents
The term parfum may sound pretty on a label, but an average of 3,000 chemicals are used as fragrances. Many of these have not been tested for toxicity and can cause skin irritation or runny eyes and nose.

3. Mineral Oil
A petroleum product, this is shockingly used in baby oil. It can clog pores and cause acne.

4. sulphates
Used mainly to provide a rich lather in shampoo and cleansers, it is linked to eye damage, depression, uneasy breathing, stomach problems and severe skin irritation.

5. Triclosan
Used as a preservative in deodorants and cleansers, Triclosan reaches into the deepest layers, and may cause skin irritation. It doesn't degrade and therefore is environmentally unfriendly.

The Two- Tone Trick:
Double-duty blinkers, brushed with two complementary shades, are the new way to wear metallics. The trick lies in picking shades that work well together and look good on you. Some help here: aqua, khaki, bronze and gold work well on Indian tones.
Dominique used: Perfection Lumière Foundation, Correcteur Perfection, Les Beiges Powder, Le Blush Crème De
Chanel in Fantastic, Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Khaki Precieux and True Blue, Le Volume De Chanel Mascara,
Rouge Allure Velvet in La Désirée and Le Vernis in Alchimie, all Chanel.

My world has lost its flavour with Farooque: Shabana

The last show of Tumhari Amrita was held against the backdrop of the resplendent Taj Mahal in Agra on 14th Dec 2013 to a standing ovation." This is a fitting finale," I said, "We have been doing the play for 21 years, I think the curtains should drop on the play". "No way," he replied. "We are good to carry on for another 21 years". Thirteen days later, I get a call at 3 am from his wife Rupa that Farooque had passed away in Dubai due to a massive heart attack. To speak about Farooque in the past tense seems like a grammatical error, an aberration of language. He was my friend, my colleague, my well-wisher of 44 years. I first set eyes on him in the corridors of St Xavier's College, Mumbai. He was the most popular boy in college. We became friends instantly and together formed the Hindi Natya Manch. All the money for the production would come from Farooque's pocket because the college ran an English theatre group and had no funds left for our efforts. We inevitably won all the inter-collegiate drama competitions —Farooque for Best Director and Best Actor and I for Best Actress. But over the years the pattern remained the same. I would be anxious and nervous before the curtains came up and he would be cool as a cucumber!

Chinese can have second child if one parent is an only child

State media say China's top legislature has sanctioned the ruling Communist Party's decision to allow couples to have a second child if one parent is an only child.

It's the first major easing in three decades of the restrictive national birth planning policy.

Implemented around 1980, China's birth policy has limited most couples to only one child, but has allowed a second child if neither parent has siblings or if the first born to a rural couple is a girl.

The official Xinhua News Agency said the standing committee of the National People's Congress approved a resolution Saturday to formalize the party decision.

It says the national lawmaking body has delegated the power to provincial people's congresses and their standing committees to implement the new policy.
