GOOGLE EARNINGS SHOOT UP BY 17%

The world’s largest search engine Google has reported a massive shoot of profits in the fourth quarter of the ended year.  Google reported that their profits shot up by 17 per cent compared to the one recorded in 2012. The company credited this success to their strong advertising revenue which have surpassed rivals Facebook and  Yahoo.
Google earlier sold Motorola which they had acquired just two years ago to Chinese phone electronic giants Lenovo. In a report regarding the sale of Motorola they said that the company had recorded a loss of $384 million in the past year which more than double compared to the $152 million which it recorded in the 2012. The sale of Motorola was welcomed well in the stock market as Google shares immediately shot up. Lenovo acquired Motorola at a cost of $2.91 billion in what comes as its bid to try to breakthrough into the western market of America.
The sale of Motorola had come as a surprise move from Google but as it has emerged it was one well calculated move as the company (Motorola) has been viewed as the dragging element in the Google company. It has therefore been hindering the rise of Google shares in the stock market.
Google in a report said that Motorola would be better when served by Lenovo. Lenovo will be able to compete with rivals Samsung, Apple and Huawei in the market as it establishes its expanding business venture to the west.

ISRO joins the elite club: GSLV D-5 successful

It was a quite euphoric rush of emotions at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota on Sunday evening after the successful launch of GSLV D-5. The GSLV D-5 carrying communication satellite GSAT-14 lifted  off from the ISRO's Sriharikota port at 4:18 pm.
After overcoming several hurdles, ISRO's attempt to establish credibility in launching India's communication satellite has finally succeeded. With this, India joins the list of space-faring nations United States, Russia, France, Japan and China who have seen success with indigenous cryogenic engines.

"Not many countries have mastered this complex technology. We have qualified the cryogenic engine. It's a milestone," said K Radhakrishnan, Chairman, ISRO. Indian Space research organization was under huge pressure to develop its own engine as the ISRO had already used six out of seven cryogenic engines that India had bought from Russia. However the officials were very confident of launching this successfully.

"I'm proud to say that ISRO has done it. The Indian cryogenic engine has performed as predicted as expected for this mission and injected precisely the GSAT 14 communication into the intended orbit. It is another major achievement for the GSLV programme and I would say it is an important day for science and tech in the country and space tech in the country," added K Radhakrishnan.

In the past three years, India has seen two failures - in April and December 2010. Last year, the GSLV flight with an indigenous cryogenic engine was called off an hour before the lift after a leak in the liquid tank.

This launch was very crucial for ISRO as the technology is extremely complex as the satellite uses liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen at -183 degree centigrade and -253 degree respectively. As it involves fuel usage at extreme low temperatures, it has posed a challenge to several countries, while only a few were able to master it.

No business as usual till Khobragade issue resolved: India

India on Monday made it clear to the US that it cannot be "business as usual" between the two sides till the Devyani Khobragade issue is resolved.

This was conveyed by Vikram Doraiswami, Joint Secretary (Americas), to US Ambassador Nancy Powell when she met him at South Block here.

Doraiswami firmly put across to the US envoy that "it is your process and you have to sort it out", sources said.

New Delhi's assertion assumes significance in the context of the January 13 deadline for the indictment in New York of senior diplomat Khobragade on visa fraud charges.

The US said last month it is proceeding with the prosecution of Khobragade and has no intention of withdrawing the case of visa fraud against her.

India has been demanding the withdrawal of the case against her and an apology from the US for the treatment meted out to the 39-year-old diplomat, including a strip search and detention with criminals after her arrest on December 12.

The incident led to strong protests by the Indian government and widespread indignation in India. At the time of her arrest, Khobragade was the Deputy Consul General in New York. She was subsequently transferred to India's Permanent Mission to the UN.

A 1999-batch IFS officer, Khobragade was arrested on charges of making false declarations in a visa application for her maid Sangeeta Richard. She was released on a USD 250,000 bond.

India retaliated by downgrading privileges of a certain category of US diplomats among other steps last month.
