Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his wife Sadhna Singh have sent a defamation notice to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party state unit chief, demanding Rs 10 crore in damages, over an advertisement issued by Congress targeting his family.
The notice, sent last night, said that advertisement- published in newspapers and on the Internet spoke about Chouhans having "a currency counting machine" at their house and the Chief Minister giving contracts to his in-laws.
Advocate Shashank Shekhar, who sent the notice on Chouhans' behalf, said the advertisement, which made false allegations, was meant to harm the goodwill and the reputation of his clients and to cause 'mental trauma and harassment'.
The notice, also sent to state Congress president Kantilal Bhuria, demanded that they withdraw the charges through another advertisement in the same newspapers and on Internet within a fortnight.
If they did not do so, a Rs 10-crore defamation case will be filed against them, the notice stated.

Narendra Modi takes on Rahul Gandhi, 'praises' mosquitoes

In a remark that is likely to trigger another war of words between BJP and Congress, Gujarat CM Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the mosquitoes of Bundelkhand region for daring to bite Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.
Addressing an election rally here, the BJP’s PM candidate, said, “I want to congratulate the mosquitoes as they had dared to bite Shahzade (Rahul), because no one from his family had been tou-ched in the last hundred years. Let alone touching, if anyone said a word against the Gandhi family, its loyalists would not spare him or her.”
Rahul insulted PM, not us: Modi
Rahul Gandhi had said last month at a public meeting that he suffered mosquitoes bites when he was visiting the area in 2009. Modi said Congressmen did not have any sense of responsibility and they continued to be involved in one scam or the other.
He said, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had visited almost every village in the state and given an account of work done by his government.

4-seater plane lands on highway in Madhya Pradesh

A four-seater private aircraft made an emergency landing on a highway in Madhya Pradesh in rough weather this morning, bringing traffic to a halt and startling motorists.
The small aircraft, said to be Piper PA-30, belonging to NRI Sam Verma, was on a regular sortie when it was caught in strong winds and forced to land on a four-lane highway, about 180 KM from state capital Bhopal.
Dramatic TV videos showed the aircraft's descent amidst wooded surroundings and electric poles as traffic was brought to a halt for safe landing. The plane, with insignia VT-EUC, landed safely and pulled up yards away from rows of trucks parked on the roadside. According to local authorities, the pilot had initially sought permission to land near the Sapna dam which was denied for security reasons.
The pilot, who was on board alone, was unharmed. Betul Collector Rajesh Prasad Mishra said the Department of Civil Aviation and Air Traffic Control would be asked to explain who had given permission for landing after which the next course of action would be decided.
Meanwhile, sources in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Mumbai, said they have not yet received the Flight Safety Report of the aircraft to be able to understand the reason for the emergency landing.
"We have received this information from the media and have not yet been contacted by the owner. We are also yet to get the FSR. We tried to call up the businessman owner but he is not responding," a DGCA official said in Mumbai. He said the district police should register a case and submit the Flight Safety Report to the civil aviation safety regulator.

No question of apology to India; US to proceed with proseuction of Devyani Khobragade

New York: The US is proceeding with the prosecution of senior Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade and has no intention to withdraw the case of visa fraud against her.
US sources here said today that more evidence was being gathered against the 39-year-old diplomat before the indictment is filed. The deadline for indictment is January 13.

Indians in US missions grossly underpaid
There is no question of apology to India over the arrest of Khobragade, the then Deputy Consul General of India, in New York on December 12 which has led to strong protests by the Indian government and widepread indignation in India.
The Indian government has demanded withdrawal of the casre and an apology for the treatmet meted out to the diplomat.
The sources said that the US government intended to proceed with the prosecution of Khobragade. The indictment will be brought, they emphasised. They said that everything with regard to the Indian diplomat had been done by the book and that there was no nefarious motive.

2013: A challenging time for India-US relationship
The sources replied in the negative when asked if Khobragade, who has been transferred from the Indian Consulate to the country's mission to the UN subsequent to her arrest, enjoyed full diplomatic immunity at present.
They conceded, though, that if she gets UN immunity the diplomat cannot be prosecuted or brought to court for the period of the immunity. The case will be in "suspension" but will not be dismissed, they said.
After getting the UN immunity if she went back to India and then again comes on a visit to the US, she could face arrest since the charges would stand, the sources added.

Newsmakers 2013: Kapil Sharma

Till 2012, Kapil Sharma was just a stand-up comedian who made Comedy Circus judges, Archana Puran Singh and Sohail Khan, laugh the loudest. It was only when he parted ways with the makers of the TV show, Optimystix, to establish his own production house, K9, that Sharma's true potential was recognised. It is clearly evident on Comedy Nights with Kapil, his show on Colors which features comic skits, celebrity interviews and audience participation.

In recent times, few have regaled audiences as much as the comedian from Amritsar, so much so that many in the audience volunteer to be the target of his jokes. He has had many a celebrity, including Shah Rukh Khan who came on his show twice to promote Chennai Express, in splits as well. Sharma, 32, has given the jaded tv viewers, long fed on mawkish soap operas, something to smile about. He does so by delivering punchlines in Hindi, Punjabi and even poor English. His humour is sardonic but never derogatory, always clean, and appeals to a wide base, from rickshaw puller to Lata Mangeshkar.

But stardom has come with controversy. Sharma faced charges of tax fraud, and the departure of Sunil Grover, who played the beloved Gutthi, from the show has kept gossip writers busy. Sharma is, however, not deterred. Comedy Nights with Kapil is TV's highest-rated non-fiction show, beating Bigg Boss and Kaun Banega Crorepati in TRP's. These days, no film's TV promotion is complete without its stars sharing the stage with Kapil. He has cracked the code on how to tickle the funny bone. He is here to stay.
